Alvarado Wastewater Treatment Plant, Union City, California

Beyaz & Patel, as prime consultant, prepared a study of approximately 15 structures, including Sludge Thickeners 1 and 2, primary and secondary clarifiers, aeration basin, sludge line/piping, digesters 3 and 4 roofs, and pump station, to know the extent of damage in cracked concrete and steel due to corrosion, to determine the cause(s), and to rank the repair and retrofit schedule by highest to lowest priority to ensure plant safety and to mitigate further damage. The study consisted of a review of existing information and the onsite evaluation of the structures, as identified by the District. The work culminated in the development of a report on each of the individual facilities or structures with respect to the need for renewal or replacement of the areas manifesting damage.
