Main Wastewater Treatment Plant Digester Upgrade, Phase 2 and 3 and High Strength Waste (HSW) Receiving Station, East Bay Municipal Utility District

Beyaz & Patel provided structural design for the blend tanks, high strength food waste (HSW) and FOG tanks, digester feed loop pump station, overflow pump station, odor control area, pipe chase tunnel, digester control building, substation/electrical (MCC) building, underground tanks, and miscellaneous foundations for small equipment items, as well as converting the existing steel floating covers to new fixed steel roof covers.
Services included site visits, reviewing existing documents including structural calculations and drawings, establishing design criteria, preparation of specifications and structural calculations, and preparation of drawings for 800-foot-long, 20-foot-high steel pipe-support structure for 36-inch-diameter pipe for sludge digester gases between digesters and power generation facility.
We also provided detailed final design of several structural modifications to the: mixed liquor channel, secondary clarifier feed channels, primary effluent channel, and modifications to the scum skimming equipment and new outlets/overflows into the channels.
Beyaz & Patel provided construction support and responded to RFIs. To maintain proper plant operations, no more than two digesters were allowed to be out of service at any time and all contractor activities were coordinated with existing plant operations to avoid any interference with the treatment plant’s day-to-day operations.
